In this tutorial, I show you how to manipulate a photograph to create an awesome composition of a girl who appears to be on fire in the middle of a forest fire. I’ll show you a variety of techniques, including photo manipulation, background removal, the path tool, color balancing, shading, using the dodge and burn tool, scaling and cropping, removing black backgrounds using the “screen” mode, working with layers, using the levels tool and brightness and contrast, adding fire, and more!
Beginners should be able to follow this tutorial, though there are some advanced photo editing concepts involved in creating this photo. If you are brand new to GIMP, I recommend checking out one of my other beginner photo editing tutorials before working on this project or taking my photo editing course.
